In the interview, Dr. Kelliher, a co-author of the AHA's scientific statement on maternal and cardiovascular health, discusses the integration of traditional and Western medicine in her practice, offering a unique perspective on healthcare for Indigenous communities.

Dr. Kelliher was interviewed by the American Heart Association regarding a higher rate of premature heart attack deaths in American Indian and Alaska Native adults. The interview supports research presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2023 by Karthik Gonuguntla, M.D. showing understudied higher rates of heart attacks at a younger age among AI/AN peoples, deficits in screening and treatment and structural disparities.
